Gunmen Attack Benue Villages, Kills 25, and Abduct Scores

NIGERIA. Benue State: Herders are suspected of killing at least 25 people and kidnapping others in Benue State, Nigeria, after a concerted raid on numerous villages in the Guma, Logo, and Tarka Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The gunmen allegedly targeted the communities in the late hours of Monday and early hours of Tuesday, according to reports.

According to the report, 15 bodies were found in the Tyotugh community under Tarka, nine in Guma, and a traditional ruler in the Logo LGA.

Caleb Aba, the Chairman of Guma Local Government‘s Council, revealed that seven people were slain near Guma’s Umenger Mbadwem ward in Tse-Sumaka.

“We’ve set up a patrol to comb the bushes because some other people haven’t been spotted,” Aba explained. “It’s also possible that some attackers left with some other people alive.”

According to individuals who managed to flee the attack, the perpetrators are presumed to be herders, which Aba corroborated.

The remains of the dead have been evacuated, police men have been summoned to the villages, and the situation is under control, according to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Catherine Anene, who confirmed the attack from the scene of the incidents.
