NIGERIA. BAUCHI STATE: At the just-concluded 2022 and the 36th edition of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Bauchi state, Abba Goni-Mukhtar and Haulatu Aminu have emerged overall winners.
Goni-Mukhtar and Aminu, who held from Borno and Zamfara states respectively, keenly contested among 328 participants cut across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
It was gathered that the winners emerged at the recitation of the 60 chapters of the Holy Qur’an for both male and female categories.
Speaking during the competition, the Chairman of Musabaqah Foundation for Qur’anic Recitation Competition and the Vice-Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Professor Lawal Bilbies, advised the participants to be good ambassadors of Islam and also to make good use of the lessons learned throughout the competition.
However, Bilbies, therefore, applauded the effort of the Bauchi State Government for its untiring support throughout the competition. We sincerely appreciate and remain grateful for the state’s cooperation and support from the beginning to this year’s competition, Bilbies noted.
The organizers
The annual competition, organized by the Musabaqah Foundation for Qur’anic Recitation in Nigeria and Center for Islamic Studies Usman Danfodio University Sokoto and supported by the Bauchi State Government, lasted for one week.
The 328 participants battling supremacy for six different competition categories are drawn from the 36 states of the federation, including FCT, which comprises 168 males and 160 females.
Categories of the competition
The categories include; memorization of the 60 chapters of the Holy Qur’an with science, arts, and commentary (Tajweed and Tafseer), as well as memorization of the whole Quran with (Tajweed) and memorization of 40 chapters of the Holy scripture.
Others include memorization of 20 chapters of the Holy Qur’an with Tajweed (theoretical and practical), memorization of 10 chapters of the Holy Qur’an, and memorization of the first two chapters of the Holy Quran with Tajweed practical.
The due winners of the competition, Goni-Mukhtar, and Aminu, were given three million each by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for their outstanding performances.
Other winners are Musa Ahmed and Fatima Tijjani, both of Borno state also received a take-home of two million each for participating in the 60 chapters of the Holy Qur’an.
However, Mohammed awarded a scholarship to Sumayya, a 13 years old who represented Bauchi state during the competition for her excellent recitation of the Holy Book. Mohammed also gave 25 million naira’s to the organizers, panel of the judges, and the entire participants for finding the event worthy of attending and participating.
