NIGERIA. NIGER STATE. KEBBI STATE: Sixty-eight persons have been confirmed killed and an unspecified number of others taken away as bandits invade several communities in Tungan Magajiya of Rijau and Munyan Local Government Areas of Niger State.
According to Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the incidents occurred between Sunday to Monday this week.
Matane said that most of those killed are the members of local vigilante groups who cut across Tungan Magajiya and Sakaba villages on different attacks.
On Monday, Matane further noted that the bandits moved into Tungan Magajia and Rijau in Niger State, killing scores of other vigilante members. The vigilantes were on a joint patrol along the area due to the two states’ incessant shooters’ attacks on communities.
Some vigilantes were Bouchard by merchants; some were hanged to death while guns killed some. However, 12 of those killed are from Rijau, while the rest are from Sakaba and Tungan Magajiya, respectively, Matane said.
Matane also revealed that several castles were stolen from the villagers.
In another related incident, it was gathered that bandits had killed about 19 security agents, including 13 soldiers in Kanya village in the Danko-Wasaga area of Kebbi State.
Those killed include five police officers and one local vigilante. The Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Umar Babale Yauri, made this known to journalists during the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama’s visit to the state to commensurate with the form on the lives lost.
The incident is happening barely 24 hours after it was reported that the bandits in the state killed 62 local vigilantes.
For about three days now, 65 local vigilantes cut across Kebbi State have lost their lives, Yauri revealed.
Yauri further stated that when it comes to the issue of banditry, Boko Haram, and any other insecurity elements, Kebbi state is safe, until the pressure is put on the bandits from the Zamfara axis was intense as such, they tend to find their exit by entering Kebbi state, Yauri noted.
Onyeama urged the Kebbi State Government to do all it could to flush out the enemies from the state and assure the form of the Federal Government’s support.
