NIGERIA. Zamfara State: From December 2021 to January this year about 2,155 kidnapped victims of bandits and insurgency have been rescued from the hand of their abductors in Zamfara state. The state Commissioner of information Ibrahim Dosara disclosed this to the newsmen during a media briefing in Gusau, the state capital.

Dosara added that the success was achieved through the cooperation of the military and all the security officials deployed to the state by the federal government of Nigeria to help in restoring peace and order.

In recent times, military officers have been deployed to the Gando forest, and other parts of the state have dismantled different bandit hideouts and camps in the state forest.

The Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle has been working all round the clock to ensure the state enjoys the peace it is known for in no distant time, Dosara added

Dosara also said that, as part of Matawalle’s effort in restoring peace, the governor visited the Niger Republic president, a country sharing a border with Zamfara state to collaborate and discuss ways forward on how to tackle and end banditry and kidnapping.

This is a heartwarming development for us in the entire North-Western states as it has become the bedrock of neutralizing the incessant inflow of dangerous weapons into the hands of bandits across the region, Dosara said.

It is the most virulent form of banditry in Nigeria. The victims of the kidnapping includes school children, pupils, and women. However, the rescued victims have so far been reunited with their parents.
