PAKISTAN: Mohammad Rizwan and Haider Ali’s half-centuries helped Pakistan defeat West Indies by 63 runs in the first T20I of the 3-match T20I series between Pakistan and the West Indies. In this match after winning the toss, West Indies decided to bowl first.
Pakistan lost their captain in the first over of the match
Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were opening the batting for the Pakistan side. Pakistan lost the wicket of their skipper, Babar Azam, in the 4th delivery of the first over bowled by Romario Shepherd. After that Fakhar Zaman joined Mohammad Rizwan at the crease. Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman added 34 runs.
Just when things were looking a bit better for Pakistan, Romario Shepherd once again broke the Partnership as he removed Fakhar Zaman (10) and Pakistan was 35/2 after 4.5 overs. After the wicket of Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali joined Mohammad Rizwan in the middle.
Hundred runs partnership between Rizwan and Haider Ali
Mohammad Rizwan and Haider Ali added 105 runs. Mohammad Rizwan scored his 12th T20I half-century. Rizwan scored 78 runs off 52 deliveries which included 10 fours. When Rizwan got out Pakistan was 140/3 after 15.1 overs.
After that Pakistan lost two quick wickets Asif Ali (1) and Iftikhar Ahmed (7) but Haider Ali and Mohammad Nawaz just completely demolished the West Indian bowling lineup. Haider Ali scored 68 runs off 39 deliveries which included 6 fours and 4 sixes whereas Mohammad Nawaz scored 30 runs off just 10 deliveries which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Both of these batters helped Pakistan to score a massive total of 200/6 after 20 overs.
For West Indies, Romario Shepherd took 2 wickets while Akeal Hosein, Oshane Thomas, Odean Smith, and Dominic Drakes took 1 wicket each.
West Indies also lost their first wicket pretty quickly as they lost their opener Brandon King (1) at the first delivery of the 2nd over and West Indies were 7/1 after 1.1 overs.
West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran came out to bat after the fall of 1st wicket. Nicholas Pooran was looking good as he scored 18 runs off 10 deliveries but he got out off a delivery by Mohammad Wasim Jr and West Indies were 33/2 after 3.5 overs.
West Indies lost wickets at quick successions
West Indies kept losing wickets at quick intervals and they failed to stitch a good partnership because of which the game was getting out of West Indies hands. Shai Hope scored 31 off 26 deliveries which included 4 fours and Rovman Powell scored 23 off 15 deliveries which included 1 four and 2 sixes.
West Indies were 88/7 after 13.2 overs. There was a 46 runs partnership between Romario Shepherd (21) and Odean Smith (24) late down the order but it wasn’t enough as West Indies got all out for 137/10 after 18.6 overs. Pakistan defeated West Indies by 63 runs.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr took 4 wickets, Shadab Khan took 3 wickets whereas Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Nawaz, and Haris Rauf took 1 wicket each.
