INDIA: The BBC appears to be on the case, owing to its now-viral Gundam (Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise created the Gundam anime series, which is a Japanese military sci-fi media franchise) article. The Olympics get underway in Tokyo this summer, all eyes are on the athletes to see who will bring home the gold medals they desire. And it’s quite obvious that news organisations from all around the world are covering the event, and some of their stories have piqued the interest of internet users.

The whole thing started with a tweet from the BBC on the Tokyo Olympics. They shared a snapshot of a climber competing in a rock climbing competition. It has a gigantic Gundam statue in the back, which appears to be captured in the photograph. Everything was great with the BBC Sports post until they cited it as a Transformer figure. Following the discovery of the error, BBC Sport published a follow-up article in which it was asked whether a Gundam or Transformer would win in an Olympic challenge, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

When it comes to mechs (a Japanese manga and anime genre that extensively showcases or concentrates on mechanical innovation such as Robots, cyborgs and androids), the British network appears to have gotten its signals mixed on social media. Fans on Twitter are pointing out that Gundam and Transformers are not the same thing. This sparked a hilarious meme war between fans and the BBC.

Fans of both series, on the other hand, were never great subordinates to one another. When it comes to mocking the BBC, though, the entire fandom comes together in the comments section. Many fans shared various anime memes about mistaking a Gundam for a Transformer. However, the response was not insulting or degrading in any manner; rather, it was a witty and good response from the fans.
