INDIA: The celestial body that captures our attention and fascination in the universe, the Moon has the most powerful influence on life on planet Earth. The Moon is the natural satellite of our planet. It orbits on its own axis approx. 27 days. The rotation of the Moon around the Earth is 27.322 days. However, it rotates exactly once every time it circles the Earth and keeps the same face pointing towards the earth. Its rate of spin is tidally locked and synchronizes with its rate of revolution.

When one thinks of the Moon, the most obvious physical phenomenon that is directly affected by the gravity of the Moon is the tide of the sea. Vedic astrology considers the Moon, as the pivotal element in understanding living beings on earth. In the Rig-Vedas, it is considered as the ‘element of mind’ in humans on earth.

Moon / Chandra, a bright and shining light controls the human mind and versatility and natural significator of mother in the 4th house (Sun sign – Cancer), is a planet of harmony, imagination, beauty, psychology, emotions, meditation, peace of mind, and tranquility; it defines our thinking, feelings, in art, romance, poetry, and literature, and all our day-to-day actions.

Mind is a flow of thoughts

In the sacred Bhagwad Geeta, it is mentioned ‘Vriti- Pravaha, Eti Manah’ that means ‘the mind is a flow of thoughts.’ As you think, the mind will be.

Several qualities of the Moon

There is s scientific evidence of Moon’s powerful effect on the moods and the social behavior of humans. Marine life is regulated by the effulgent Moon and fishing is an integral part of coastal communities’ life. At certain times of the year when the orbits of the earth bring the ‘sun and the Moon in perfect alignment’, then inland water bodies and even the earth can get affected by the tide.

Ages ago, when the orbit of the Moon was closer to the earth, the Moon’s influence also brought about massive changes in the topography of the earth and the continental drift. It reflects the powerful influence of the Moon on both human history and global geography.

The mystery around the Moon

The prevailing theory of modern science about the Moon is that, at the beginning of its evolution was the result of a ‘massive collision with a still-evolving Earth’, which caused this large “chuck” to turn into an orbiting body. This suggests that several lunar explorations and space missions conducted by NASA have confirmed similarities in structure.

The scientific aspects about the Moon

An important effect of the Moon on the evolution of the earth is the stabilization of the orbital pattern of the earth. The earth is not round, but an egg-shaped sphere. To be blunt, the earth will shake.

Without the steady effect of the Moon, this shape will change dramatically, so the tilt of the axis, i.e. the polar cap, will move dramatically with each seasonal rotation, producing a climacteric, more violent and drastic changes. It is possible that life, as we know could not have evolved here, had it not for the Moon to ‘keep the Earth in line’ and to continue stabilizing the Earth’s orbital position for a stable climate.

As the origin of the Moon, comes from a collision that ‘burst’ the Moon’s body from that of the earth’s developing center defining a disruption of how the core of our planet evolved, the metals that usually remain intact at the origin of the planet were scattered in a variety of ways above and below the Earth’s geography. All the metals on the planet are concentrated deep in the core. But due to the collision that took the Moon into orbit, the metals that were important in the development of our industrial and technological cultures are readily available within the Earth’s crest.

The moon signs study in Vedic-astrology

In the Western system, the ‘Sun Signs’ the sun is constant for one month in one Sign (Rashi). e.g.; In Aries, the Sun remains from 21st March to 20th April…. and so on…. till it reaches the Sun Sign ‘Pisces’, 19th February to 20th March.

In Vedic-Astrology, the Moon changes its Rashi (Sun sign) every 2.5 days in the natives Kundali (horoscope); meaning, the Chandra (Moon) being signifying ‘the mind,’ changes its dimension in the native’s horoscope in such a short time. Hence, the approach of the Vedic-astrologers is considered authentic and the study of the individual horoscope of the native defines correctly and convincingly the future of the native.

In Vedic Astrology, the sun ascendant on the eastern zodiac defines Janma-Lagnam or the 1st House (Tanusthan), characterizing the person. The ‘Lagna or Ascendant’ defines the ‘entire life of the native’, perse is formed because of the past-life’s deeds. Then, why should the Chandra Rashi (Moon sign) be seen and the horoscope evaluated from that perspective? The Lagna-Ascendant gives one birth and stops oneself from getting moksha (Liberation from birth and death) based on the karmas/actions performed through the mind(the Moon).

We have already seen the signifies of the Moon and its impact on the mind. All actions(karma)/good/bad are created through the mind, or the brain (through mind).
