A race full of surprises and heartbreaks

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc had to abandon the race in spite of taking the pole position due to a gearbox issue. During the qualifying round on Saturday, he crashed his vehicle on the wall at the exit of Swimming Pool soon after taking the pole position that left the gearbox damaged. Lewis Hamilton finished at the same position from where he started the final race. Hamilton was upset with Mercedes’s sluggish maneuvering capacity particularly in a circuit like Monaco. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz who started at P4 took his first podium of the season. Valtteri Bottas was running in second position behind Max Verstappen during the race but had to untimely retire at pit stop on Lap 31.

Astonishing qualifying rounds

Max Verstappen started showing promises of winning the race right from the qualifying round. High-rake of Red Bull gave a greater migration of downforce towards the front at slow speeds and provided a valuable advantage at the corners. Max Verstappen made the best use of this during the race. There were disappointments like Daniel Ricciardo missing Q3 and Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda‘s elimination in Q1 and surprises like Pierre Gasly qualifying in the top-six and Antonio Giovinazzi being placed into Q3 for the first time this season. Unfortunately, Mick Schumacher crashed his vehicle during the practice session and was out of the race early.
