A Greater Pandemic That Needs Equal Attention

The solution to the hunger problem needs no research or an expensive vaccine, the solution is to provide a meal

WORLD: Fifteen months have gone by since the first mention of COVID-19 case. Not a day goes by where every news channel in the world is beaming at the number of new cases, multiple WhatsApp messages being forwarded on how we should protect ourselves, what we should eat, drink, think, live, to escape or fight COVID-19.

Just to put things in perspective, the global number of people affected is 150 million with 3.1 million deaths. 22% of people died because of COVID-19 were above 70. Just take a moment to think about it.

Without undermining the gravity of the pandemic, here is something to think about. Three million people have died due to hunger in 2021 alone in the first five months, which is TEN times higher than that of what COVID-19 has caused. What does that say about the Government, industries, social media, traditional media? Are we saying that if we all act upon it, we can’t solve the deaths caused by hunger? The solution to the hunger problem needs no research or an expensive vaccine, the solution is to provide a meal.

COVID-19 pandemic is not a problem. We have to think if hunger causes ten times more deaths than COVID-19, then our collective concern should be ten times more for deaths by hunger, correct? We are not concerned because hunger does not affect the rich and powerful.
