The roller coaster circuit
The circuit upgraded and redesigned by Ricardo Pina, Arquitectos, opened in 2008 after being homologated by The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing and The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body for many auto racing events like the Formula One.
Drivers defy low grip and a slippery Track
The 4.6 km new track layout at Portimao comprising of hairpins and 16 turns together with several ups and downs, blind curves are fantastic but there were other genuine challenges like gusty winds and the tailwinds that made driving a real challenge. Moreover, the drivers were having a difficult time balancing the issue of very low grip in the track combined with the choice of tyre that made the race a real roller coaster ride worth watching.
Coming next in the Formula One season for 2021 is the ‘Spanish Grand Prix‘, scheduled from May 7 to 9, 2021, at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
