Lockdown-2021 In Delhi

Delhi: COVID-19 infections continued to rise in India and over 90,000 new cases were reported for the third consecutive day taking the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 1,26,86,049, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated recently. The Delhi government also has acted swiftly and has imposed a curfew from 10 pm to 5 am till April 30. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Friday said Delhi was going through the fourth wave of COVID-19 but a full lockdown-2021 was not being considered yet. “As per the current situation, we are not considering imposing a lockdown. We are closely monitoring the situation and such a decision will only be taken after due public consultation,” he had told reporters.

Delhi reported 3,548 new COVID-19 cases, 2,936 recoveries, and 15 deaths on Monday. With this, total cases in the national capital reached 6,79,962, including 14,589 active cases.

He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open vaccinations for all citizens aged above 18 as coronavirus cases continue to spike. At present, vaccination is available for all those above 45 years of age. Vaccination against COVID stands as a single evidence-based resource for us to restrict the cases by raising the personal immune response and pave way for herd immunity. Apart from lowering the age limit, CM Kejriwal also suggested walk-in COVID vaccination should be available for all.

India has covered over 8 crores of the population with COVID vaccination to date. In view of the rapid spread of the second wave of the disease, there is a need to gear up the vaccination strategy with immediate effect on war foot. A vaccination certificate shall be made a mandatory certificate for entering into public places and receive products under the public distribution system.

A large part of India is again under restrictions during this lockdown-2021, and weekend lockdown, night curfews, the closing of schools and colleges have been imposed to check the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The strictest of the measures are in Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state due to the coronavirus pandemic. Night curfews have already been imposed in Rajasthan, Odisha, Punjab, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Delhi is the latest state to impose a night curfew.
