The United States Embassy in Mozambique has raised a concern over continous terrorists attack in Cabo Delgado which has seen many civilians become vulnerable to the attacks.
A recent attack took place on Wednesday soon after a French Oil company, Total agreed to resume construction of a $20 billion Liquidified Natural Gases project in the the northern part of the country which the insurgents are also alleged to have targeted.
According to the reports, the armed group attacked the town’s central business areas, looting banks and blocking the road between Palma and the adjoining Afungi Peninsula and mobile telephone service was cut at 16:30.
In a statement on Thursday, the US Embassy in Mozambique condemned the attacks in Palma, Cabo Delgado.
“We express our solidarity with the Palma community and the Mozambican Armed Forces working to re-establish peace and security.

“The Embassy is deeply concerned by the terrorists’ continued assaults against the residents of Cabo Delgado, who have suffered tremendously from the terrorists’ brutal and indiscriminate tactics”, reads the statement.
Cabo Delgado Insurgence
Cabo Delgado insurgence is an ongoing conflict between the Islamist millitants ISIS (referred to as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and the Mozambican forces which emerged in 2017 as the Islamists attempt to establish an an Islamic state as well as targeting the LNG project site.
Recently, the US promised to deploy forces that will train the Mozambican millitary against the ISIS.”
The United States Government continues to monitor the situation and remains committed to working with the Government of Mozambique to counter violent extremism and ensure security and prosperity for all its citizens and residents”.
Since the emergence of ISIS in Mozambique, an estimated number of more that 2,000 lives have been lost while others were forced to move from the area.
