NIGERIA. Minna, Niger. One of Nigeria’s popular musicians, Peter Okoye, has revealed that he and his family had COVID-19 but they have recovered from it.
Okoye disclosed that himself, his wife, Lola, their daughter, Aliona, and two of his domestic staff had tested positive for Covid-19.
Okoye is among the few celebrities who had gotten the virus, disclosed their status, and has survived.
His story is coming a few days after the death of a former governor of Oyo state in Nigeria, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, from complications related to Covid-19.
Okoye made this revelation when he took to his social media handles to caution Nigerians that the COVID-19 pandemic is real and people can get infected with it.
How the Celebrity Got the Virus. In the video on his Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages, the Nigerian singer said that he was the first in his family to test positive closely followed by his daughter and wife.
Okoye said that the family had battled the dreaded virus for three weeks and came out victorious without any complications but stated that the past three weeks had been “hell for his family. “
Excerpt from the video. The video stated that he had kept his illness to himself for the past three weeks because he was very sick and was the first to get the virus in his family.
He encouraged people to observe the precautionary measures given by government to ensure that they do not get the virus, “I just want to tell everybody that this COVID-19 is real. Don’t take [your health] for granted.“
Speaking about how his wife got the virus, he said, “After a week, my daughter caught the virus as well. It was sad that when she caught it, the doctor insisted that she has to be self-isolated in her own room but my wife did something very courageous. She said no … She picked our daughter from her room, held her and took her to the master bedroom and she called me and she started crying. I asked her what happened and she said I cannot leave this girl alone. I would rather be infected and be with her.”
“Five or six days later, my daughter was pronounced negative. When she was pronounced negative, we knew it wasn’t going to end there. The next day, Lola became positive. It has been hell.”
The musician then declared that he and his family have been cured from the virus, “I am happy to announce that my wife, myself, our daughter and two of our domestic staff all of us are now negative”.
