Five Killed In A Fatal Car Crash At Tanjong Pagar

SINGAPORE: A fatal car crash that resulted in fire killed five men in Singapore on Saturday. The incident took place along Tanjong Pagar at around 5:30 am on the second day of the Lunar New Year. According to the reports, a BMW car slammed into a closed shophouse. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver “was believed to have sped along with the said location” before crashing into a shophouse, the police said in a statement. Police also said that it was the highest number of people killed in a single accident in the past decade.

29-years-old, Jonathan Long was overspeeding in car along with his four friends. It is reported that none of the victims were under the influence of alcohol.

Long’s girlfriend, Raybe Oh Siew Huey, 26 was at the scene and reportedly rushed to the car wreck. Oh tried to open the door when the car had already caught fire, injuring herself in the process. In an attempt to save the men, the former SIA stewardess suffered 80 percent burns on her body. She was taken to the Singapore General Hospital and is in extensive care at the moment.

“She had her arms and legs bloodied and was standing there,” said a witness.

Aftermath

The Civil Defence Force was informed at 5:40 and at around 2:00 pm the car wreck was removed from the incident site. Later, four fire trucks arrived at the site and took care of the fire immediately.

Furthermore, the accident was frequented by visitors of the deceased. There were offerings made to the victims. Flowers, clothes, food, were all presented to pay condolences. At around 8:30 pm, a woman wearing black arrived at the site with blue flowers. She was seen removing the photograph, believably an old photograph of the deceased. A single man and two other groups of people were spotted visiting the site of the incident.

Additionally, police reportedly said that further investigations were under process.
