MALAWI. Lilongwe: Malawi government has recently launched a development blueprint that aims at guiding the country’s development plans until 2063.
President Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Saulos Chilima have led Malawians in launching the development blueprint of one of the poorest countries in the world.
Titled ‘An inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation’, the framework plans to see Malawi becoming a self-reliant, industrialized upper-middle-income country in the future.
While launching the blueprint, Chakwera told Malawians to play a leading role in the implementation of the development agenda.
“We must not imagine that this dream will be realized from the laborers of other nations,” he warned.

Dubbed Malawi 2063 the blueprint replaces a similar framework which was previously called ‘Vision 2020‘.
Vision 2020 was launched in 1998, with plans of having a secure, democratically mature, environmentally sustainable, and self-reliant nation.
Unfortunately, the implementation of ‘Vision 2020’ flopped because of being interfered with by political parties whose development guidelines were in conflict with the vision.
Keeping this in mind, Vice president Chilima stressed the fact that political party manifestos will be aligned to the Malawi 2063 to ensure continuity.
Currently, Malawi is a predominantly importing country with agriculture raw materials as the main exports.
