Schools In Nigeria To Resume From 18th January

NIGERIA. The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that the January 18th 2021 resumption date for schools across Nigeria stands. 

In a press statement released by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong , the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu after extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders declared that the resumption date of 18th January should remain.

The stakeholders consulted include State Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and  heads of institutions, staff unions and students.


Conditions for resumption

As a condition for resumption, parents and respective institutions are told to ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

The protocols include compulsory wearing of facemasks by all students, teachers and workers in all schools, temperature checks and hand washing facilities at strategic locations in all schools.

Other conditions include ensuring constant supply of water and sanitizers, enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days. 

The schools are also told to avoiding overcrowding while each school must provide functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation of suspected cases to medical facilities

According to the Ministry, the measures which are to ensure safe reopening of schools for academic activities will be subjected to constant review.

Teachers and school administrators and other stakeholders were urged to ensure strict compliance.

States announce dates for resumption 


Various states across Nigeria have announced the date for the resumption of primary and secondary schools.

Niger state in north central Nigeria has announced January 24th as the resumption date for its primary and secondary schools.

The state government has also put in place monitory mechanism that would ensure strict compliance of the COVID-19 protocols in schools across the state.

The state would be resuming for the first term of the 2020/2021 academic session.

Lagos state government has stated that all public and private schools in the state will resume on Monday, January 18, 2021 for the second term 2020/2021 academic session.

For Edo State, the state government has declared Febuary 1 as the resumption of schools across the state.
