GHANA. Accra: Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, Mo Ibrahim, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus are among those who emerged as winners in African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Persons of the Year 2020 Awards.
The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards committee has unveiled the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as African of the Year 2020.
The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo was named the Africa Political Leader of the year 2020, Graca Machel was named the African Climate Champion of the Year alongside ten other distinguished Africans.
The award was announced after a keenly contested poll which attracted 120,000 votes on the Magazine’s website.

The winners shall be decorated and presented with honor instruments on February 26, 2021, during the annual African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award ceremony.
The ceremony is billed to happen virtually and set to host influential Africans in business, politics, and all spheres of the African leadership spectrum.
Strive Musiyiwa founder and Executive Chairman for Econet Group in Zimbabwe is runner-up to Dr. Ghebreyesus while President John Magufuli of Tanzania is runner-up to President Akufo-Addo.
Other Winners
In the African Female Leaders of the year category, Tiguidanke Camera, the Chairman, and CEO, TMG Group of Guinea emerged as the winner while Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary UN Economic Commission for Africa is runner-up.
Sadio Mane, the footballer from Senegal is the winner in the Young Person of the Year.
For the category of the Africa Climate Champion of the Year 2020, Graca Machel is the winner while Agnes Matilda Kalibata, the President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is runner up.
Goodluck Jonathan, former president of Nigeria emerged winner in Africa Peace and Security Leader of the Year 2020, and General Vincent Nundwe, Commander of the Malawi Defence Force is runner-up.
Jean Jacques Muvembe of Ebola Vaccine in Congo is runner up to Dr. John Nkengasong, Director General of Africa CDC in Cameroon.
The Africa Philanthropist of the Year 2020 is Dr. Mo Ibrahim of Mo Ibrahim Foundation in Sudan.
African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award
The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award has become the leading vote based third party endorsement in the continent.
The 2020 award recorded an upsurge of over 50 percent votes from the previous year mainly from Africans within and the diaspora.
The Awards are in their 9th year running and they recognize deserving distinguished Africans who have blazed the trail in the year in review.
Shortlisted nominees are selected from results gathered via a call for nominations traditionally promoted via paid online and offline campaigns across the continent, Europe, and America.
