UNITED STATES: US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account and his presidential campaign account was permanently suspended by the tech giant on Friday. Twitter banned Trump’s account citing “risk of further incitement of violence”. This decision was taken after a group of Trump supporters stormed into the US Capitol building and wreaked havoc on 6 January. At the time of suspension, Trump had 88.7 million followers.
The US-based microblogging site also stated that the accounts were not above rules and cannot use Twitter to incite violence. The US-based tech giant had earlier temporarily suspended Trump’s account. Twitter also deleted two of Trump’s tweets, one of which was about him not attending President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
In a statement, Twitter announced, “user @realDonaldTrump should be immediately permanently suspended from the service”.

In another tweet, Twitter said, “After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them – specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter – we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”
After the suspension, Team Trump released an official statement which read, “I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED!” Trump also indicated that he will build his own platform.
He further blamed Twitter for promoting “radical Left” where some of the most vicious people in the world were allowed to speak freely.
