INDIA: The US-India Tax Forum, a significant initiative of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), has named Tarun Bajaj, the former Revenue Secretary and Secretary of Economic Affairs to the Government of India, as its new head. Bajaj, who brings a wealth of experience and expertise in economic affairs and taxation matters, assumed the role after joining USISPF as an Advisor to the Board of Directors in January 2024.

Bajaj, a member of the Indian Administrative Service of the 1988 batch, Haryana Cadre, served as Revenue Secretary until his superannuation in November 2022. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping fiscal policies and promoting economic growth, including managing both direct and indirect tax revenues and stabilizing the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bajaj was instrumental in formulating the Indian government’s economic response, overseeing the rollout of relief measures and economic stimulus packages. Additionally, his financial acumen contributed significantly to the formulation of Central Government budgets for the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Appointment Signals USISPF’s Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Ties through Enhanced Tax Policies

Commenting on Bajaj’s appointment, Dr. Mukesh Aghi, President, and CEO of USISPF, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to welcome Tarun to lead our US-India Tax Forum. With his extensive experience and profound expertise in finance and taxation, Tarun stands as an ideal candidate to steer our efforts forward.” Dr. Aghi emphasized Bajaj’s adept leadership and expressed confidence in advancing bilateral trade and investment under his guidance.

In response, Tarun Bajaj expressed his honor in leading the US-India Tax Forum, stating, “It’s a pleasure to have joined USISPF, and in my new role, I look forward to making my contribution to strengthen the US-India Tax Forum as an effective institution.” He emphasized his commitment to engaging with stakeholders and fostering robust economic bonds between the United States and India.
