INDIA. Mumbai: The highly anticipated Indian Navy Sailing Championship (INSC), the Indian Navy’s most significant sailing regatta, is scheduled to take place from November 5 to November 9 in South Mumbai. This prestigious event is being organized under the auspices of the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA).
With over 100 participants representing the pan-Navy community, the INSC will showcase their sailing prowess across five different classes of boats and three unique racing formats.
The INSC serves as an annual event conducted under the guidance of INSA, based at Naval Headquarters, with the aim of promoting the active involvement of naval personnel in competitive sailing.
This year’s INSC edition will feature teams from the three Naval Commands, consisting of officers, cadets, and sailors, including Agniveers.
The competition will encompass three popular sailing formats, including Fleet Racing in the ILCA-6 class boat for women, ILCA-7 class boat for men, and BicNova class board for windsurfing open.
Team Racing will unfold in the Laser Bahia class boat, while the Match Racing segment will be in the J24 class boat.
The Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), an esteemed training institution of the Indian Navy located in Colaba, Mumbai, will host participants from various naval branches.
Established in 1947, shortly after India gained independence, INWTC is one of India’s oldest and most distinguished sailing schools, known for its exceptional sailing facilities. It is also home to the Indian Navy Sailing Team, which competes in both national and international sailing competitions.
The Indian Navy places a special emphasis on watermanship activities and recognizes sailing as a means to cultivate seamanship skills, foster camaraderie, courage, and develop other essential leadership qualities among its personnel.
The INSC stands as a testament to this commitment, offering a platform for naval personnel to showcase their sailing prowess and sportsmanship.
