ED Conducts Raids Against Web-Based Gaming App ‘Dani Data’ Controlled by a Chinese National

The App guaranteed minimum return of 0.75% per game against the investment made by the public

INDIA. Mumbai: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) conducted search operations against the controllers of a web-based gaming application named “Dani Data”, at 14 premises in Gujarat and New Delhi and seized various incriminating documents, electronic devices, etc., on Wednesday.

The raids were conducted at Ahmedabad, Kachchh, and Navsari in Gujarat and Delhi under the provisions of the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002, the ED statement issued on Thursday read.

The main conspirator of Dani Data is a Chinese national, Woo Uyanbe, alias Chember, who is stated to be in Shenzhen, China. He was residing in India from 2017 to 2019. The alleged scam occurred when he was not in India. A red-corner notice was issued against him through INTERPOL after the scam came to light.

The controllers of the web-based mobile application Dani Data displayed live scores of European football and allowed people to bet on them. The App also offered a guaranteed return against the investment made by the public, with a minimum return of 0.75% per game, which thereby allured the complainant and other persons to make investments with them.

Thousands of people were allured in this way and made deposits through the App. After a considerable amount was deposited through the App, the accused removed the application from the Google Play Store.

The ED investigation revealed that there have been various FIRs registered against this app. The gaming application was created by the accused Chinese national and his accomplices and was available for use from December 2021 onwards. It was made available on the Google Play Store from May 26, 2022, to May 31, 2022, and it stopped working from June 2022 onwards.

ED initiated an investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Cyber Crime Police Station, Palanpur, District Banaskantha, Gujarat, against the controllers of Dani Data and others. The Gujarat CID arrested nine accused in March this year.

From the charge sheet filed by the Gujarat police, it was revealed that the Chinese national conspired with his associates in India and thereby duped thousands of investors of crores of rupees.
