INDIA: New Zealand Crushed Netherlands by a 99-run margin in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. This victory marked New Zealand’s second consecutive win in ODI 6 of the tournament, firmly establishing their presence as strong contenders.
New Zealand vs Netherlands
Batting first, New Zealand set a challenging target of 323 runs for the Netherlands in their 50 overs. The Kiwi innings were highlighted by solid performances from their top-order batsmen.
Will Young led the charge with a well-crafted innings of 70 runs off 80 balls. Complimenting him, Tom Latham contributed 53 runs to the total, while Rachin Ravindra added 51, further bolstering their team’s innings.
In response, the Netherlands faced an uphill battle from the outset, struggling to keep up with the required run rate. They eventually succumbed to the Kiwi bowling attack, being bowled out for 223 runs in 46.3 overs.
The hero of the day for New Zealand was the left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who was in fiery form. Santner claimed an impressive five-wicket haul, leaving the Dutch batsmen grappling to contend with his variations and guile.
Backing up Santner’s brilliance, Matt Henry contributed with a three-wicket haul to help New Zealand wrap up the win comfortably. Their combined efforts dismantled the Netherlands’ batting lineup, leaving them unable to mount a significant challenge.
Colin Ackermann was the lone shining light in the Dutch innings, registering 69 runs off 73 balls. However, his valiant effort was not enough to change the course of the match as wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
In the bowling department for the Netherlands, Roelof van der Merve, Paul van Meekeren, and Aryan Dutt each managed to pick up two wickets, but their efforts were overshadowed by New Zealand’s dominant performance.
