NETHERLANDS: Dutch driver Nyck de Vries is set to make a triumphant return to the Formula E championship with Mahindra Racing, marking a new phase in his illustrious racing career. This announcement comes after de Vries was ousted by the AlphaTauri F1 team earlier this year, making headlines for his unexpected departure from the world of Formula 1.
De Vries’s Formula 1 stint was brief, contesting just 10 races for the Red Bull junior team. His tenure ended with a replacement by Daniel Ricciardo ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, leaving him without any points to his name.
When asked about his struggles in F1, de Vries expressed his perspective, stating, “It’s not about forgetting. I think it’s about seeing it as different phases and stages of your life.”
The 28-year-old racer is no stranger to Formula E success, having clinched the 2020–21 championship with Mercedes during a three-year tenure with the team before Mercedes’ exit from the championship.
Mahindra Racing’s COO, Frederic Bertrand, sees de Vries as a crucial addition with the potential to replicate his success in helping Mercedes become a dominant force in Formula E.
