UNITED STATES: Microsoft has extended the accessibility of its innovative Bing AI chatbot to the Google Chrome browser. This expansion means that users can now take advantage of the chatbot’s capabilities even outside of Microsoft Edge, marking a significant step in the integration of artificial intelligence with browsing.
Bing AI, Microsoft’s AI-powered generative chatbot, was initially introduced in February of this year. Built upon OpenAI’s GPT model, the chatbot was designed to engage in conversations with users and seamlessly assist them in their search endeavors. However, its access was initially confined solely to Microsoft’s Edge browser, limiting its reach to a specific user base.
Six months after its debut, Microsoft has broken down these barriers by officially adding support for Bing AI on Google Chrome, one of the most widely used web browsers worldwide. This announcement comes as part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to provide users with a more interconnected and efficient online experience.
Microsoft highlighted this milestone in its recent release note, stating, “Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise are now supported in the Chrome desktop browser (using the latest Stable Channel update) for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Support for other browsers on desktop and mobile is forthcoming.” This expansion aims to democratize access to the capabilities of the Bing AI chatbot, allowing a wider audience to benefit from its conversational abilities.
Moreover, Microsoft’s commitment to fostering productivity in the workplace shines through, as it also extends the Bing Chat Enterprise version to Edge Mobile. This means that businesses employing this version can now enable their registered users to utilize the Bing AI chatbot on their smartphones through the Edge browser for mobile, facilitating seamless communication and support within the enterprise environment.
The journey to this significant milestone has seen a period of testing and refining. Microsoft had reportedly begun testing the compatibility of Bing AI with Google Chrome last month, with select users experiencing limited access. This testing phase allowed Microsoft to fine-tune the experience before extending it to a broader user base.
To access Bing AI on Google Chrome, users only need to visit Bing.com, Microsoft’s search engine. After entering a search query and hitting ‘Enter’, the search results page will now offer a ‘Chat’ option next to the familiar ‘Search’ button. Clicking on ‘Chat’ will grant users access to refined answers and contextual search results, all powered by the AI-driven Bing chatbot.
In addition to this expansion, Microsoft has also introduced new design templates for certain search topics on the Bing search page. These templates are engineered to reduce content duplication and maximize space efficiency, ultimately delivering faster and more precise search results to users.
