RPF ADG to Lead Inquiry into Jaipur Express Shooting Incident

INDIA.Mumbai: Following the shocking shooting incident on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train, where RPF constable Chetan Singh allegedly killed four individuals, the Railway Ministry has taken swift action.

A high-level committee headed by the Additional Director General (ADG) of RPF will conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.

The victims of the shooting include RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tika Ram Meena and three passengers – Azgar Abbas Shaikh, Abdul Qadirbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala, and Sadar Mohammed Hussain. The accused used an AKM automatic weapon for the attack.

An FIR has been filed against Singh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Indian Arms Act, as well as the Indian Railways Act. He is scheduled to appear before the magistrate for remand on Tuesday.

The tragic event occurred between Vapi and Mira Road stations when Singh fired upon ASI Tika Ram Meena and the three passengers in the B5 coach of Jaipur Express. Although he attempted to escape between Mira Road and Dahisar, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel apprehended him, confiscating his weapon.

In the aftermath, a video surfaced on social media showing Singh raising slogans related to Pakistan and expressing support for political figures. However, Railway Ministry’s Executive Director Shivaji Sutar emphasized that the authenticity and location of these videos are yet to be verified and that the matter is under investigation.

Inspector General P.C. Sinha, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Western Railway, revealed that the accused, Singh, had mental health issues, emphasizing the importance of handling the case without any bias or communal perspective.

Meanwhile, Western Railways announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of the deceased ASI Tika Ram Meena, providing financial support to his family. The families of the other victims will also receive ex-gratia amounts.

ASI Tika Ram Meena is survived by a married son and daughter and a mother. Singh, who hailed from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, was recently transferred to Mumbai and posted at Lower Parel railway workshop.
