INDIA: Karan Johar’s latest mass entertainer, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is making waves at the box office. The film has emerged as the fourth-highest first-weekend opener of Bollywood this year, standing alongside other successful releases like “Pathaan,” “Adipurush,” and “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.”
As per box office collections, the romantic comedy earned ₹19 crore net in India on its third day, adding to the ₹11.1 crore on its release day and ₹16.05 crore on the second day. In total, the film grossed around Rs 85 – 86 crores worldwide during its opening weekend.
Within three days of its release, the movie amassed ₹44.50 crores net in India (₹53 crores gross) and approximately Rs 4 million overseas (₹32 – 33 crores gross). “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” offers a captivating blend of drama, love, and compassion, resonating well with the audience. Dharma Productions proudly shared the film’s box office figures on Twitter, stating, “The celebrations of love get bigger and louder at the box office – your prem for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is unstoppable!”
The movie revolves around the love story of a cool and swanky Punjabi boy, Rocky Randhava, who falls for a Bengali journalist named Rani. However, their families, hailing from different backgrounds, disapprove of their relationship. Despite the challenges, the couple embarks on a journey to live with each other’s families.
Initially, the film delivers humor, laughter, and refreshing morals, but it later delves into typical drama and conflict. Nonetheless, Karan Johar’s efforts to portray a myriad of emotions have been highly successful.
Adding to the film’s allure is the unexpected chemistry between veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, which pleasantly surprised cinephiles. Ranveer Singh expressed his privilege and delight in working with esteemed actors like Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Dharmendra, stating, “The kind of stature Dharam ji commands, the kind of aura he has, he is one of our greatest superstars ever. He is very generous as a person. It’s been a privilege… (It is surreal and unreal to have shared screen space with not just him but Jaya Bachchan madam and Shabana Azmi ji as well.”
