INDIA. Mumbai: The security measures around Chabad House, also known as Nariman House, in South Mumbai have been strengthened by the Mumbai Police after its Google images were discovered in possession of recently arrested terror suspects.
Chabad House was one of the targets during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, and six of its occupants were tragically killed. Since then, there has been a high-security arrangement with round-the-clock police presence at the Jewish center.
Following the recent arrests by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Pune, two Google images of Chabad House were found with the suspects, who were subsequently handed over to the ATS. The accused individuals allegedly conducted surveillance of the center, raising concerns about its security.
In response to the findings, the South Region of Mumbai Police has beefed up security and increased vigilance at Chabad House. A security mock drill was also conducted in the area to further ensure the safety of the center and its occupants.
During the investigation, ATS officials seized various items, including computers, laptops, pen drives, hard disks, and a white explosive substance used for bomb explosion tests, from the arrested individuals. The suspects, who were on the wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), were allegedly involved in a bomb blast conspiracy in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and were considered experts in bomb-making.
In connection with the case, the Maharashtra ATS later arrested a third accused for giving shelter to the primary suspects. The accused individuals have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (amended in 2019) and are currently in ATS custody until August 5. The authorities are diligently investigating the matter to ensure the safety and security of Chabad House and its community.
