HUNGARY: In a heated exchange during the Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, found himself at odds with his race engineer, Xavier Padros, once again. However, team principal Fred Vasseur has now disclosed that the underlying cause of Leclerc’s annoyance was a radio malfunction that hindered communication between the driver and the team.
The incident marked another tense moment within the Ferrari team, as Leclerc voiced his concerns about the team’s tactics, particularly regarding strategy adjustments in comparison to his teammate Carlos Sainz.
The frustration peaked when Padros responded with a seemingly vague reassurance that they would discuss it later, leaving Leclerc exasperated with the reply. Addressing the media after the race, Vasseur shed light on the situation, saying the team could not understand what he said because he had an issue with the microphone.
The microphone problem was just one of several “mistakes” Ferrari encountered during the Hungarian GP, according to Vasseur, who expressed his commitment to rectifying these issues. The team principal emphasized the need for time to thoroughly assess their performance and the specific errors made throughout the race weekend.
Vasseur acknowledged that the unique race format in Hungary posed challenges in analyzing their performance accurately. Despite the frustrations and setbacks, Vasseur remained confident in his assessment, believing that other team principals would share a similar viewpoint when reviewing their team’s performances.
He highlighted that critiquing and addressing mistakes was an integral part of their roles. As Ferrari aims to regain its competitive edge in the fiercely contested Formula 1 season, the team will undoubtedly scrutinize its performance and implement necessary improvements.
