Al-Hilal Makes Staggering €300m World-Record Bid for PSG’s Kylian Mbappé

The bid arrives after PSG decided to sell Mbappé unless he signed a new contract

FRANCE: Al-Hilal, a Saudi Arabia, has made a €300 million (£259 million) offer for Kylian Mbappé. The bid arrives after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) decided to sell Mbappé unless he signed a new contract.

Al-Hilal’s bid will be accepted by PSG, but no conversations have taken place between Al-Hilal and the 24-year-old. PSG believes Mbappé has already agreed to terms to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Al-Hilal will attempt to entice Mbappé with a record-breaking €200 million pay per year, and with a commercial deal, his income might exceed €700 million annually, as per reports. They are willing to negotiate a deal that, even by current Saudi Pro League standards, would defy football’s financial rules.

However, they are aware that it may only make sense for Mbappé to join for one season. Lionel Messi was given a contract of more than £350 million per year by Al-Hilal to leave Paris Saint-Germain, but he chose to join Inter Miami instead.

In June, Mbappé informed PSG he would not extend his one-year contract extension next summer. The club’s president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, stated that if Kylian wanted to stay, the team would want him to stay; however, he must agree to a new deal. Mbappé’s £166 million transfer from Monaco to PSG in 2018 was a significant move.

Saudi Pro League clubs have invested heavily in acquiring European players this summer. Al-Hilal, one of four teams owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, signed Rúben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Kalidou Koulibaly.

They are also nearing agreements to acquire forwards Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham and Zenit St. Petersburg.

Neymar was sold for a whopping €222m to PSG by Barcelona in 2017. His contract expires in 2025.
