INDIA. Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, as heavy rainfall continues to lash the region. Moderate to heavy rainfall has been reported in various parts of the city, leading to concerns about water reserves and transportation disruptions.

According to IMD officials, a cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand and its neighboring areas has contributed to the active monsoon conditions in Konkan and parts of Maharashtra. The possibility of heavy rain in South Konkan and North Konkan, along with moderate rain in North Maharashtra and Vidarbha, has prompted the issuance of alerts.

As a result of the heavy rainfall, Mumbaikars are facing a 10% reduction in daily water supply, as the water reserves have dipped below 50%. Currently, the city’s water supply stands at 34.09%.

The heavy rainfall has also affected the local train services in Mumbai, with delays of 20 to 25 minutes reported. The island city, eastern suburbs, and western suburbs have experienced varying amounts of rainfall. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has diverted bus services due to the heavy downpour.

Furthermore, due to the anticipated high tide of about 4.21 meters, Juhu beach, a popular tourist spot, has been closed to the public. Recent drowning incidents in the area have prompted authorities to take precautionary measures.

The situation is being closely monitored as the region continues to face the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and its impact on various aspects of daily life.
