PAKISTAN: In Pakistan’s Karachi, a Hindu temple that was said to have been constructed some 150 years ago was completely destroyed by bulldozers. The Hindu community in Karachi has been shocked by the destruction of the Mari Mata Temple in Soldier Bazar.
After the structure was deemed to be outdated and dangerous, the demolition effort was conducted in front of a significant police presence late on Friday night.
The populace, however, claimed that they were not told of the temple’s demolition.
Ram Nath Mishra Maharaj, who is in charge of maintaining several ancient Hindu temples in the region, told the media that “they (authorities) did it very early in the morning, and we were not informed this was going to happen.”
Mishra added that the outer walls and the main gate of the temple were left standing while the bulldozers completely destroyed the interior construction. He added that the temple was supposedly constructed some 150 years ago and that there was a rumour of treasure being buried beneath its courtyard.
Additionally, he claimed that land speculators and developers have been pursuing the 400 to 500-square-yard section of the temple for years. Furthermore, a senior official claimed that the temple was destroyed after it was deemed an unsafe structure by authorities.
In response to the accusations, he asserted that the Madrasi Hindu community had acknowledged the building’s extreme age and danger. Furthermore, he claimed that the temple’s administration had unwillingly, albeit temporarily, relocated the majority of the gods to a tiny room so that they could do some renovations there.
Ramesh, a Hindu community leader, claims the temple administration has been under pressure to leave the property due to a fake land sale to a developer.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Pakistan-Hindu Council, and the Inspector General of Sindh Police have received requests from the Hindu community to investigate the situation.
