INDIA: WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, has recently rolled out a new feature called “phone number privacy” for Android and iOS users. This exciting addition comes as part of the beta update and aims to provide users with enhanced privacy options within WhatsApp communities.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the phone number privacy feature is now available to beta users who have installed the latest updates for WhatsApp on their Android and iOS devices.

Once the update is installed, users will notice a new option labelled “phone number privacy” in the community announcement group info section.

As its name suggests, this feature empowers users to protect their privacy by concealing their phone numbers within WhatsApp communities.

By activating this feature, a user’s phone number will only be visible to community admins and individuals who have saved that user’s contact information.

Moreover, this privacy feature ensures that a user’s full phone number remains hidden from other participants engaged in the conversation.

With phone number privacy, users can communicate and engage in community discussions while maintaining a level of control over their personal information.

However, it is important to note that the community admin’s phone number will always be visible and cannot be hidden using this feature.

This ensures that community administrators can be easily identified and contacted, maintaining effective communication within the community.

The rollout of the phone number privacy feature is being conducted gradually, with initial availability limited to select beta users. WhatsApp plans to extend access to this feature to a broader user base in the coming days.

In addition to this new privacy feature, WhatsApp has been working on another functionality known as the group suggestions feature for communities.

Aimed at Android beta users, this feature allows community admins to manage membership requests effectively. Admins will have the option to approve or reject requests, and the feature is expected to include shortcuts for quick approval or rejection of suggestions.

WhatsApp’s continuous efforts to introduce privacy-centric features align with their commitment to providing a secure and user-friendly messaging experience.

With the phone number privacy feature, users gain more control over their personal information, ensuring safer and more private community interaction.

As with any new feature, it’s important to note that the information provided is based on reports and may be subject to change as WhatsApp refines and releases updates.

Users are encouraged to stay updated with the latest WhatsApp versions to access these new features and enjoy an enhanced messaging experience.
