INDIA: A Guard of Honour was presented to President Droupadi Murmu of India during her three-day tour of Maharashtra. The ceremony took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on Thursday and was carried out by the Armed Forces.
President Murmu received a warm welcome from Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
A grand public reception was organized in her honor at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Prior to the reception, she visited the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple in Prabhadevi, Central Mumbai, where she offered prayers to Lord Ganesha.
On Friday, President Murmu is scheduled to visit “Kranti Gatha,” an underground gallery dedicated to revolutionaries, which is located inside the Bunker at Raj Bhavan. She will then proceed to the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Ahmednagar, Western Maharashtra.
President Murmu inaugurated the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s cultural centre at Koradi in Nagpur on Thursday. Additionally, she delivered a speech at the 10th convocation ceremony of Gondwana University in Gadchiroli, Vidarbha, where she emphasized the importance of education in transforming the lives of tribals and backward classes.
She commended the university for fostering an educational ecosystem that encourages multidisciplinary research and sustainable livelihoods.
President Murmu also interacted with vulnerable tribal groups to gain insight into the challenges they face.
During the event, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a planned investment of Rs. 20,000 crore to bolster the steel industry in Gadchiroli district, referred to as a “Maoist hotbed.” He called for the inclusion of more skill-based courses at Gondwana University to align with industry requirements.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, in his speech, announced a road connectivity network worth Rs. 10,000 crore for Gadchiroli district, set to be completed by next year.
