UNITED STATES: Hollywood film Academy has invited new members! Taylor Swift, Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, Elvis star Austin Butler, Keke Palmer from Nope, and The Weeknd have all been asked to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Oscars group announced on Wednesday that it had extended invites to more than 300 people to join its ranks this year.
Swift received an invitation to join the Academy’s music division after penning songs for the soundtracks of the 2022 film Where the Crawdads Sing and the 2019 adaption of the musical Cats.
The writers, directors, and producers of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, who are required to select one of the three branches, as well as Paul Mescal, Stephanie Hsu, and Kerry Condon, are among the 22 Oscar winners and 76 nominees who have been invited.
The majority of guests invited this year are from non-US countries, including actors Ram Charan and NT Rama Rao Jr. from RRR, Zar Amir-Ebrahimi from Holy Spider, Dolly De Leon from Triangle of Sadness, Sakura Ando from Shoplifters, Vicky Kreips from Phantom Thread, and Park Hae-il from Decision to Leave. Hollywood performers include Lashana Lynch, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Hader, Paul Reiser, Selma Blair, and Robert John Davi from The Goonies.
According to the Academy group, 52% of the new members were from 50 different nations and territories outside of the United States, 34% belonged to underrepresented ethnic or racial communities, and 40% identified as women.
There were also other Indians inducted into the organisation, including Mani Ratnam and Chaitanya Tamhane in the director’s branch, Karan Johar and Siddharth Roy Kapur in the producer’s branch, KK Senthil Kumar in the cinematographer’s branch, Sabu Cyril in the production design branch, and Shaunak Sen in the documentary branch.
Santiago Mitre, Michael Showalter, Carlos López Estrada, and Joseph Kosinski are among the directors in the executive branch. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, Joana Vicente, and Janet Pierson represent the executive branch. Other notables in the music industry include David Byrne, RRR’s M.M. Keeravaani and Chandrabose, Son Lux’s Ryan Lott and Ian Chang, Swift, and Abel Makkonen Tesfaye.
