UNITED KINGDOM: Rúben Neves, the captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), has completed a club-record £47 million move to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Neves, who spent six seasons at Molineux, amassed an impressive 253 appearances and scored 30 goals for the club. In an emotional video posted on Wolves’ official Twitter account, the Portuguese midfielder expressed his gratitude, stating that he had created countless memories that would endure forever.

According to Wolves’ sporting director, Matt Hobbs, Neves embodies all the qualities sought after when recruiting players for a football club: leadership, humility, and exceptional footballing ability that elevated Wolves to new heights.

The 26-year-old Neves will be remembered as one of the standout players in Wolves’ recent history, having played a crucial role during the club’s remarkable rise. Following his transfer from Porto, Neves joined Wolves and played a pivotal part in their Championship-winning campaign in 2018.

He played a key role in helping the club achieve back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the Premier League, as well as reaching the semifinals of the FA Cup in 2019 and the quarterfinals of the Europa League in 2020. Neves’ contributions to Wolves’ success have been immense and highly appreciated by the club and its fans.

Neves joins a growing list of players moving to Saudi Arabia, including N’Golo Kanté and Karim Benzema, who completed free transfers to Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr, respectively. Wolves shared a poignant video capturing Neves struggling to contain his emotions before the official announcement of the transfer, highlighting his six seasons, 253 games, and incredible journey. 

He praised Wolves for their European adventures and celebrated their monumental victories, emphasizing the indelible memories forged during his time at the club.

In other transfer news, Burnley has secured the services of Republic of Ireland defender Dara O’Shea from West Bromwich Albion. O’Shea has signed a four-year contract with Burnley, joining them after their promotion to the Premier League.
