ARGENTINA. Argentina had closed its schools for almost eight months due to COVID-19 pandemic. But, final year students of the elementary and middle schools have now started returning to their schools from Tuesday.
In an open statement, Buenos Aires’ Minister of Education, Maria Soledad Acuña said, “After 213 days of having the school doors closed, we reopen them today for the final (meaning senior) years of the elementary and middle schools.”
Earlier, Argentina schools had started their academic sessions at the beginning of March. However, the classes were suspended after President Alberto Fernandez announced national lockdown measures on March 20.
Meanwhile, Argentina ranks sixth on the list of countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 900,000 cases and more than 24,000 deaths due to COVID-19 have been recorded in Argentina.
San Juan was the first province in Argentina to resume in-person classes in August. Now, the other regions of Argentina have gradually joined San Juan.
The first stage of the school opening invites the voluntary return of final year students in technical, middle and primary schools. Along with a teacher, only eight students are allowed in each study group. Meanwhile, in the case of a positive COVID-19 case, the group to which the affected student or teacher belongs will be suspended from the school.
