INDIA. Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized a significant quantity of ammunition in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, following disclosures made by the recently arrested Dinesh Gope (40) in the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) terror funding case.

The cache of seized ammunition, based on information provided by Gope, included 1245 rounds of 7.62 MM and 271 rounds of 5.56 MM. These munitions were received in Siksohara, Nalanda (Bihar) two years ago and were meticulously concealed for future delivery to PLFI operatives and cadres for carrying out acts of terror and violence, according to an official statement. The PLFI is a banned Naxal outfit in Jharkhand.

Gope, who was arrested in New Delhi on May 21 and is currently in NIA custody, was previously charged by the NIA in a case (RC-02/2018/NIA/DLI) related to the recovery of demonetized currency worth Rs. 25.38 lakh from PLFI operatives—a proscribed Naxal outfit in Jharkhand.

Having accumulated over 102 criminal cases against him, Gope was involved in extorting money and terrorizing businessmen, contractors, and the general public through PLFI members. He participated in depositing the demonetized currency into a bank account at a petrol pump, which was later collected through extortion.

The illicit funds were then invested through banking channels and dubious shell companies under the names of close associates and family members.

In another development, the NIA filed the second supplementary chargesheet on Saturday in relation to the Naxal attack on former MLA Gurcharan Nayak, which resulted in the deaths of two police personnel in Jharkhand in January 2022.

The chargesheet, submitted in the NIA Special Court in Ranchi, names Tivari Bankira (25) and Sadan Korah (20), both armed cadres of CPI (Maoist)—a banned terrorist organization. The accused, belonging to West Singhbhum district, have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 (amended in 2019). Tivari was apprehended on November 30, 2022, while Sadan Korah has been in custody since February 13 this year.

The attack occurred on January 4, 2022, at High School Jhilrua in Goilkera, West Singhbhum. Initially, the Jharkhand police registered the case (FIR No. 01/2022) at the local police station. Subsequently, on June 30, 2022, the NIA re-registered the case as RC-03/2022/NIA/RNC.

On December 31, 2022, the NIA filed charges against 14 accused individuals. According to NIA investigations, Tivari and Sadan provided support to CPI (Maoist) in furthering their activities related to terror, violence, and waging war against the Government of India.

They participated in a meeting where the conspiracy to attack Gurcharan Nayak at Project +2, High School Jhilrua, was planned. Additionally, they conducted reconnaissance of the location a day before the incident and received training to carry out the attack.
