UNITED STATES: In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), Apple has reportedly begun hiring professionals for its machine learning and AI divisions. The tech giant has opened approximately 176 positions across various AI-related fields, according to a report.

Despite the ongoing economic slowdown impacting several tech companies and resulting in layoffs, the surging popularity of generative AI technologies has created a growing demand for skilled professionals in this specific field. Apple’s expansion in AI reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.

Among the job openings, 68 positions are allocated to enhancing Siri, Apple’s voice-controlled virtual assistant. Another 52 positions are dedicated to integrating AI capabilities into iOS, the company’s mobile operating system, while 46 positions will focus on advancing AI technologies for macOS, Apple’s computer operating system.

The report by Pocket-lint further highlights the prominence of the term “generative” in Apple’s job postings. As part of eight job titles, the word “generative” is particularly mentioned in positions like Machine Learning Engineer – Generative AI, Visual Generative Modelling Research Engineer, and Multimodal Generative Modelling Research Engineer.

This emphasis indicates Apple’s interest in exploring and implementing generative AI techniques across its product line.

The company’s CEO, Tim Cook, recently addressed the topic of layoffs in an interview. He stated that mass layoffs are not currently under consideration and described them as a last resort. While Cook did not rule out the possibility of job cuts in the future, he emphasized that such measures would only be taken if absolutely necessary.
