INDIA: The Kejriwal Government recently had a big win in the legal battle against the central government as the Supreme Court passed a verdict on the Centre-Delhi services row.
The five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, announced the verdict in favour of the Kejriwal-led- government. Delhi CM assured that the speed of developmental work in the NCR will increase.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Supremo took the privilege of his granted power and announced a major administrative reshuffle claiming that the beaurocrats didn’t obey the Delhi government’s orders as earlier their controlling authority was the Home Ministry.
“Additionally, the administration system will be updated. The system as a whole is rotten. A system that is responsible and accountable to the public will be developed,” he added.
Previously, Kejriwal admitted that he could not appoint even a “peon” or transfer an officer due to official obligations. However, now only “Public Order, Police, and Land” are exempt from the legislative reach of the Delhi government.
Now, within hours of the judgment, Ashish More, the Secretary of the Delhi government’s services department, was fired by Kejriwal.
Former Delhi Jal Board CEO A K Singh, a 1995-batch (AGMUT cadre) IAS officer, will replace More. While making the decision, the Delhi CM said that the officers who are capable of being “efficient, honest, responsive and compassionate” will be offered the opportunity to serve the people of Delhi.
Kejriwal stated, “We provided the country with an educational model. The task will be completed at ten times the speed of the previous rate. Delhi will now serve as a model of capable governance to the rest of the country.”
The AAP convener was asked about the Anti-Corruption-Branch to which he replied, “The ACB is not with us, but vigilance will be. Officers who do not perform their duties effectively may face disciplinary action.”
