INDIA. Mumbai: Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh, who assumed the appointment of the Vice Chief of Naval Staff on Saturday, paid homage to the bravehearts at the National War Memorial and reviewed the Guard of Honour at South Block, New Delhi, on Sunday.

Before taking over as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, he was the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).

He is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Pune, and was commissioned in 1986 in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. In a career spanning 37 years, he has served on most classes of ships of the Indian Navy and has held a range of command, training, and staff appointments, including Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (CSNCO) at Naval Headquarters, Flag Officer Sea Training at Kochi, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Fleet at Mumbai, Commandant Naval War College at Goa, and Controller Personnel Services. He has also served as the Indian naval attaché in Iran.

He specialised in navigation and direction in 1992 and attended the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the UK in 2000. He underwent the Naval Higher Command Course in 2009 at the Naval War College, Mumbai, and the National Security Strategy Course in 2012 at the National Defence College, Delhi.

He holds an MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University, an MA in Defence Studies from Kings College, London, and an MA (History), MPhil (Pol) and a PhD (Arts) from Mumbai University. In recognition of his distinguished service, the Flag Officer was awarded the Nao Sena Medal in 2009, and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020.

In some other top appointments, Vice Admiral Suraj Berry took over as the navy’s Chief of Personnel on Saturday, and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan took over as Controller of Personnel Services. Vice Admiral Atul Anand took over as director general of naval operations.
