INDIA: The highest temporal body of the Sikhs, Akal Takht, has openly challenged the Punjab government and given a 24-hour ultimatum to release all the Sikh youths arrested during the police crackdown on absconding pro-Khalistani activist Amritpal Singh.
Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), held a press conference and released an official statement for the Bhagwant Mann-led government. Akal Takht also added that if their demand isn’t fulfilled on time, they will decide the further course of action.
Punjab CM assures the release of innocent
However, in the recent past, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured that he had asked the director general of police to release those who were taken into custody if their involvement didn’t smell fishy or no anti-national activity was found against them.
Now, Giani Harpreet Singh said, “If the government does not put an end to the terror atmosphere by releasing all the youth within 24 hours, a diplomatic campaign will be launched both domestically and abroad to denounce the atmosphere that the Indian state has fostered by abusing the Sikh community.”
“The state is waging a very clever and diplomatic assault against the Sikhs, which requires a diplomatic response without resorting to violence and the development of collective Sikh power,” he added.
A strong protest is initiated against the pro-Khalistani group after they tried to pull down Indian flags in the Indian embassies of the UK, US, Canada, and Australia.
Waris Punjab De head Amrit Pal Singh, the mastermind behind the conspiracy, went missing. Police initiated a search operation in Punjab to find him, which led them to arrest many Sikh youths suspected of being involved with the pro-Khalistani group.
Gurdeep Singh, a Sikh leader from Haryana, slammed the Jathedar and said, “The government is aware that all you do is plan meetings. Call a large crowd together and make a major announcement. You must introspect, if you wish to save the community.”
