INDIA. Mumbai: The Indian Navy is organising the Coastal Car Rally, “Sam No Varunah”, from Kolkata in West Bengal to Lakhpat in Gujarat from March 26 to April 19 covering the entire Indian Coastline.
The objectives of the expedition, which is part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” (75 years of Independence), include: creating awareness drives along the route about various career opportunities that the Navy offers, including the Agnipath Scheme; showcasing “Naari Shakti” (women’s power) with the participation of serving women officers and Naval wives, to join the Indian Navy, to interact with Naval Veterans; and to join the Indian Navy, to interact with Naval Veterans/ Veer Naris (brave women) and to spread awareness about the rich maritime heritage and the revival of maritime history by covering various Ports, Forts, Light Houses, Heritage Villages, Beaches etc.
Itinerary: The rally will start at INS Netaji Subhas in Kolkata on March 26 and end at INS Chilka in Odisha on March 28. This is the historic occasion of the first batch of “Agniveers” of the Indian Navy passing out. During the rally, the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) will hold outreach activities at old age homes, orphanages, and a school for special children in Kolkata.
The expedition, planned over 25 days and covering approx. 7500 km, passing through all coastal states, is partnered with M/s Mahindra, which is providing a fleet of 12 vehicles, along with Mastercard India and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd as fuel partners, the official statement read.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about how important maritime trade has been to the economy of the country during his speech on April 5, 2022, for the 59th Maritime Day. While ensuring the safety and security of the nation, the Indian Navy also plays a crucial role in protecting our maritime trade.
Surrounded by seas on three sides, India has a vast coastline of approximately 7500 km, which is more than the length of land borders we share with China and Pakistan combined. To awaken the maritime nation and encourage sea consciousness, the Indian Navy, in association with NWWA, is conducting this expedition.
