UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: In commemoration of the silver jubilee celebrations of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), student volunteers have collaborated with Sharjah Charity International (SCI) to gather AED 25,000 for constructing a classroom in Ghana, dedicated to underprivileged school students.
The classroom will be named “AUS Student Classroom” upon its completion. The collection of funds was accomplished by AUS Community Services and Outreach, in conjunction with the Student Council, club activities, a touring charity box, and coupon donations.
Fatima Abdelrahman, one of the volunteers who participated in the fundraising campaign, highlighted the importance of education and said that it unlocks opportunities, expands perspectives, and promotes innovation and creativity.
She expressed her belief that every child should have access to education in a secure and comfortable environment because education is not just limited to text on a page. It encompasses a social atmosphere, the stillness between lectures, and the experience of being in a space devoted to learning and knowledge.
Siva Durga Adduri, another volunteer who took part in the fundraising campaign, shared her motivation for participating. She expressed a strong desire to make a positive impact in the lives of school students.
She believes that education is a fundamental right for every child, and the construction of a well-equipped classroom is the first step towards a bright future. She considers this initiative to be of great importance and hopes that it will bring positive change to those who need it the most.
AUS has established robust collaborations with numerous philanthropic organizations, providing its students with a wide range of volunteer opportunities that uphold the university’s core values.
Through these experiences, AUS aims to equip its students with the ability to engage with the world beyond themselves and nurture a sense of accountability, preparing them to play an active role in the advancement of society.
