INDIA/UNITED KINGDOM: On Sunday, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Christina Scott, was called by the UK authorities to the Ministry of External Affairs following the pro-Khalistani demonstrators disrespecting the Indian High Commission in London by pulling down the tricolor flag on its premises.

The Indian administration heavily criticized the matter, stating specifically that the UK government was to blame here given its inability to take action instantly.

An arrest has already occurred for violence while the amalgamated crowds created chaos and broke a window at the Indian High Commission in London. According to reports, police started to get to the building in Aldwych in Westminster around 1.50 p.m. on Sunday. Two security guards suffered minor injuries.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, “To express India’s strong outrage at the activities committed by separatist and extremist forces against the Indian High Commission in London earlier in the day, the senior-most UK diplomat in New Delhi was summoned late this afternoon.”

“The utter lack of British security that allowed these individuals entry into the High Commission facilities was required to be explained. In this sense, she was reminded of the fundamental responsibilities placed on the UK government by the Vienna Convention,” the ministry added.

The demonstrators were protesting in light of the tensions in Punjab and the crackdown by the security forces in Punjab, targeting the Khalistani group, “Waris Punjab de.”

The Deputy High Commissioner, Christina Scott, was told by the MEA officials, “It is expected that the UK government would act immediately to identify, apprehend, and bring charges against every person involved in today’s incident, as well as implement tough measures to prevent similar crimes in the future.”

“Windows were broken at the high commission building. Two members of the security staff sustained injuries. These are believed to be minor; they did not require hospital treatment,” a Met spokesperson said.

The UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Minister of State, Tariq Ahmad, said in a tweet, “I am appalled by today’s attack on the Indian High Commission in London. This is a completely unacceptable action against the integrity of the mission and its staff. The UK Government will always take the security of the Indian High Commission seriously.”

Sadiq Khan, the London mayor, tweeted, “I condemn the violent disorder and vandalism that took place at the Indian high commission today. There is no place in our city for this kind of behavior. An investigation has been launched by the Met into today’s events.”
