SPAIN: The Cannes film market, the Marché du Film, has named Spain as its country of honour for the upcoming 2023 edition.
Spain is Marche’s second nation of honour, following India last year. The tribute aims to highlight a country’s film industry across the board, including features, documentaries, animation, and extended reality.
Marché will collaborate with the Spanish Ministries of Trade and Investment as well as the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) to showcase Spanish talent and content in Cannes this year. The umbrella advertising group Cinema from Spain will once again be present to increase the number of Spanish industry professionals.
Guillaume Esmiol, the executive director of Marché, said, “We are proud to have Spain as our country of honour for this special market edition. For my first year as the head of the Marché, I am particularly grateful and thrilled to build this 2023 edition with such a creative country.”
Spain will be heavily represented in the Marché du Film’s programmes and is eager to share with the entire film industry its impressive goal to support global co-production and enhance the country’s position as a significant audiovisual hub in Europe, his statement continued.
This year, Spanish talent will be present in every section of the Marché, including the Producers Network section. It annually brings together more than 400 producers from around the world for a series of meetings and events designed to foster networking and coproduction opportunities.
This goes to Cannes section, which highlights up-and-coming filmmakers and showcases original works-in-progress personally chosen by the Marche’s partner festivals.
Marché du Cinema will be held from May 16 to May 24 during the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.
