PAKISTAN: On Sunday, Pakistan’s erstwhile prime minister Imran Khan in Lahore urged a public trial of the Toshakhana case in front of a crowd gathered at his residence a few hours after he was disregarding his arrest as per the police.
According to a report, a large number of PTI workers were gathered at Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore, stating that the senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Fawad Chaudhry, had warned that with Khan’s arrest, there would be rageful protests all around the country.
A police team came to Lahore on Sunday to arrest Khan in light of the warrants in the Toshakhana case, they entered the room where the ex-PM was supposed to be present, but he was not there. Khan is accused of not being successful in declaring the gifts that he received and the profit he received from selling them during his time in office. All gifts ought to be declared by the government, but it is permitted to keep them below a certain value. He called for a public trial of the Toshakhana case.
Khan mentioned, addressing a crowd at the party, that he had never “bowed before any man or institution, and will never let you do so as well” adding, “I did not call you for my support but to thank you.”
Khan highlighted that there could be another plan to assassinate him as he claimed, “I went to Lahore and Islamabad high courts and there was no security. This matter would be taken to the Chief Justice of Pakistan by his legal team. It seems as though the ones who should be responsible for providing safety are the real danger.”
Imran Khan has still been recovering from an injury inflicted by a gunshot during an attempted assassination in Wazirabad in 2022. He has been successfully avoiding the indictment hearings on the case in an Islamabad court.
Islamabad police tweeted, “Imran Khan is reluctant to surrender, the Superintendent of Police has gone into the room, but Imran Khan is not present there.”
