INDIA. Delhi: The arrest of Manish Sisodia has infuriated the country, leading some to demand a fair trial and the Congress party to accuse the central probe agencies of “political vendetta.”
Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the alleged liquor scam by Sisodia brought together the parties that are against him. Many party members took to social media to condemn the arrest of the Delhi deputy chief.
The CBI questioned Sisodia for eight hours in a very strict way, and he will be locked up for five days. Now, CPIML(L) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya claims that Sisodia was arrested on the “flimsy pretext” of non-cooperation.
He said, “In yet another arrogant assault on democracy, the Modi government has once again used the institutions of the CBI and ED to pursue its politics of vendetta. At a time when the whole world is questioning the Modi government’s conspicuous silence about the Adani scam, the government is desperately trying to terrorize the opposition.”
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised his voice against the action and said, “By arresting Manish Sisodia ji, who brought revolutionary changes in the field of education in Delhi, the BJP has proved it is not only against education but also against the future of the children of Delhi. The people of Delhi will respond by defeating the BJP in all seven seats in the next Lok Sabha election (referring to the parliamentary seats in the national capital). People of Delhi will respond by defeating the BJP in the 2024 election.”
However, the ruling party replied to the other parties, claiming their active involvement in the case. The saffron party spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, said in a press conference, “The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) is acting lawfully against the corrupt, but the AAP does not seem to believe in law, the Constitution, or the people.”
Lashing at the Delhi CM, he said, “Everyone knows that Sisodia holds the portfolios of many departments. What kind of drama is being played? Kejriwal seems to have taken an oath on the Constitution to destroy it.”
