West Bengal: Class 10th Student Dies in an Elephant Attack

INDIA: In a shocking incident in West Bengal, a student appearing for his boards was on his way with his father towards his school when he was attacked by a wild elephant. The incident was reported in the Belakoba range of Baikunthapur forest division in north Bengal.

The victims are identified as Arjun Das, a resident of Rajganj, and his father, Bishnu Das. As per reports, the father-son duo took a shortcut using a forest route to reach the school on time, but due to low visibility and dense fog, they didn’t spot the animal.

Reportedly, the elephant first tossed the boy in the air with its trunk and then stamped him to death. The father escaped and didn’t suffered any injuries.

The father recalled the incident and said, “To save time, we travelled the forest road. Low visibility prevailed. We were abruptly ambushed by an elephant that appeared out of nowhere.”

However, immediately, Arjun was rushed to Jalpaiguri superspeciality hospital, where he was declared “brought dead.” The distressing incident brought everyone into a state of fear.

Promptly, the Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee, who was on her way back from Meghalaya, expressed her grief on the incident. She said, “This situation truly saddens me. I have requested that the education department arrange for bus transportation for kids who live in forested regions to get to their exam locations.

She added, “They also need assistance from the police administration and the forest department. Several such incidents are happening in Jharkhand and West Bengal, and we are not able to tackle them.”

According to recent updates, authorities in Nepal and Bangladesh have successfully implemented methods to control the giant animals, but Bengal and Jharkhand are still struggling to find ways to prevent such uncertainties.

Later, Jalpaiguri district magistrate Moumita Godara Basu and the mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Gautam Deb, will visit the family of the deceased.
