INDIA: MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, is prepared to compete in the 2023 IPL season. The former India captain will also say goodbye to IPL play after retiring from international cricket in 2020.

Dhoni would retire as the captain after the IPL 2023, according to a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) official. “Indeed, this will be MS’s final season playing. We are now aware of this. Nonetheless, the decision is his.” CSK executive added.

“He has not formally informed the management of his intention to retire. The return of the IPL to Chennai is a momentous occasion for all CSK supporters. But if Dhoni plays in his final season, it will be a sad occasion,” a CSK executive concluded.

Since the first season in 2008, Dhoni has been the captain of CSK. He took a two-year absence from leading the team before returning to do so.

He gave Ravindra Jadeja the captaincy in IPL 2022. However, it was a bad decision because CSK struggled with Jadeja’s leadership.

However, after just eight games, the cricketer acquired the leadership again, but he could not save CSK’s campaign. This time, CSK will once again be the early favourites as Dhoni looks to cap his career on a triumphant note by giving the team their fifth IPL championship.

On Friday (February 17), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the IPL 2023 schedule. The IPL’s return to home-and-away games this season will allow four-time winners CSK to play at Chepauk once more.

His final home game will be against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14 at the Chepauk Stadium if CSK cannot make the playoffs.

On April 17, Dhoni’s CSK will travel to Bengaluru to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in what will undoubtedly be a “clash of Titans.”
