INDIA. Mumbai: Close on the heels of the brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in Delhi in May last, yet another incident of a nurse killed by her live-in partner has come to light from Nalasopara near Mumbai.

Incidentally, Shraddha had first registered her complaint against Aaftab at the same Tulinj police station in Nalasopara near Mumbai, stating that Aaftab was threatening her with dire consequences and she was scared for her life.

Mumbai: Man kills live-in partner

The accused, Hardik Shah (27), who strangulated his partner Megha Dhan Singh Torvi (35) and hid her body in a bed box and who was running away, was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Nagda (Madhya Pradesh) on Monday night.

An FIR (No 128/2023) has been registered, and the accused has been booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal code. He has been remanded to police custody till February 21, Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar of Tulinj police station told the Transcontinental Times.

The accused was jobless and used to quarrel with Megha over money, who was working as a nurse and was bearing all expenses. Hardik apparently strangulated her with a towel on Saturday and hid her body in a bed box.

He tried to flee with the money he got after selling some household items, except the bed. He also reportedly called Megha’s relative and told her that her body was in a bed box and he was planning to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, after neighbours alerted the police on Monday evening that a foul smell was emanating from inside the victim’s rented house at “Sita Sadan”, the police broke the door of the flat and found Megha’s decomposed body.

Senior Police Inspector Shahuji Ranaware of the Crime Branch then tracked Hardik’s location and found that he was travelling by train and was somewhere near Nagda. Immediately Hardik’s photographs were sent to GRP, who nabbed him from Paschim Express on Monday night.

The couple was said to be residing in a rented flat for the last six months. They had told the real estate agent who made the accommodation available that they were married.

Hardik’s father, a diamond trader residing at Malad in North Mumbai, had disowned him since he was jobless and had purportedly spent around Rs.40 lakh from his father’s bank account.

In yet another case in the national capital, Sahil Gehlot (24), who killed his girlfriend Nikki Yadav (22) on February 10 and stuffed her body into a refrigerator of a family-owned eatery in Najafgarh and got married to another woman roughly 12 hours later, was arrested on Wednesday.
